When Liverpool beat the defending Premier League champions in style to lift the Community Shield, it looked like the Reds were going hit the ground running but fast forward a few weeks later, Klopp’s men have been nowhere close to their usual best.
Their loss last weekend against the Gunners is a reflection of how last season’s Premier League and Champions League runners up are still lagging in several areas but perhaps there is still hope as the Reds eased past Rangers, scoring 7 goals in Champions League group stage.
The team may lack cohesion, their defence has undoubtedly been porous and their attack has been blunt often.
As if that was not enough, this is Liverpool’s worst start to a league campaign in 10 years, it’s evident Sadio Mané’s replacement Darwin Nunez will need more time to adjust to playing in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
With a scintillating blockbuster of a march slowing approaching when Liverpool and Manchester City lock horns on Sunday, many Reds fans will be hopeful that the home side will utilise their home advantage to the fullest.
The only question in people’s minds is will Nunez be anywhere close to Erling Halaad in terms of head-to-head comparison in this match ?
And if so then it can only mean that he was worth every penny, obviously the Uruguayan prospect is under a lot of pressure but if there is one thing for sure they can count on Egyptian King Mohammed Salah who has the right attributes to try and turn fortunes around.
Liverpool have an opportunity to secure three points when they take on a City side that has an in form striker in Halaad that can’t stop scoring, a man who has only been kept from scoring against Bournemouth, yes the same Bournemouth side that lost 9-0 against the Reds.
It will be a super Sunday clash as many will look forward to seeing the somewhat rivalry between Halaad and Nunez begin in the English Premier League and how a Liverpool side that has not impressed so far will overcome an in-form Manchester City.
