South African-born Zambian goalkeeper Cyril Mwenya Chibwe has broken his silence on the lack of game time at Zesco United.
The 30-year-old was left out of Avram Grant’s 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He has also only appeared three times for Zesco in the Zambia Super League this season.
Chibwe, however, says he is not bitter.
“There’s just a lot that is happening here but again, if it’s not my time, it’s not,” he told Kickoff. “We just have to support whatever is there at the moment.”
He also stated that, he does not regret pledging his international allegiance to Zambia despite being eligible to play for South Africa.
“To be honest, at the time I decided to play for Zambia, I just wanted to play for my father’s (May His Soul Rest in Peace ) country of birth and felt it was the right decision.
“I’m comfortable with my decision and feel it’s the right decision I believe.
“When it’s my time, it’s my time, I believe everything happens for a reason.”
