Daka’s Leicester City Crash Out of Carabao Cup

Leicester City were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Huddersfield following penalty shootout.

Leicester were knocked out of the Carabao Cup as Huddersfield Town fought back to earn a 2-2 draw before winning the resulting penalty shootout 3-2. Zambia’s Patson Daka was replaced by Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew in the 82nd minute as stories about his potential departure continue to escalate.

Despite failing to get his name on the scoresheet, it wasn’t entirely a bad day at the office for the Zambian forward.

Leicester City took the lead through Kamza Choudhury in the 54th minute, but Daniel Vost responded 11 minutes later.

Harry Winks restored parity shortly afterwards, but Leicester City’s lead didn’t last long as Cameron Ashia’s goal ensured the game was decided in a penalty shootout, which Huddersfield Town won.

Daka completed 87% of his passes and could have gotten his name on the score sheet but couldn’t quite get his efforts on goal. He won all his aerial battles and created a chance for his teammates.

It seems as though Leicester City’s manager, Marti Cifuentes, who replaced Ruud van Nistelrooy, could be willing to trust Daka with more game time. He was, however, disappointed with last night’s game.

“Definitely, I’m not happy about the whole performance,” Cifuentes said afterwards. “I think Huddersfield overall, because of the desire and energy, they probably deserved to win and, unfortunately, we couldn’t pick up momentum.”

Daka in transfer rumours again

While the Chipolopolo striker is currently in the final 12 months of his contract at Leicester, you would understand why a move away from the King Power Stadium seems ideal if the Foxes haven’t set their sights on renewing his contract. From a business point of view, Leicester can at least cash in should his possible suitors strike a deal.

Snapped up from FC Red Bull Salzburg, it’s evident that Daka hasn’t quite lived up to the standards he set in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Several reports are now indicating that Valencia could be interested in the Chipolopolo front man’s signature. Should he move or stay, Daka could still re-establish himself as one of the most prolific strikers from the southern part of Africa.
