The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) continues to lose officials who joined the association during the tenure of former president Walter Nyamilandu.

The latest is FAM’s General Secretary Alfred Gunda, who joined the association in 2016. His contract will not be renewed, and he has since left office with a few weeks remaining on his term.

Gunda did not respond to our phone calls from Wednesday, but according to a source, he has gone on leave and will not return after the leave period.

“He has left office. Of course, he has one assignment for us, which is to attend the COSAFA Annual General Meeting in South Africa next week. After that, he will not return to the office.

“His contract is ending this month-end and has not been renewed. He will not stay,” said the source.

However, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya stated that contract issues are private matters and cannot be discussed in public.

He did not confirm whether Gunda’s contract had been renewed: “We will communicate to the public at the appropriate time,” he said.

Gunda’s departure means all senior officials who served under the Nyamilandu administration have now left the association.

The first to exit was Christopher Mdolo, the then Director of Finance, followed by the departure of Commercial and Marketing Director Limbani Matola.

Next was Club Licensing and Compliance Manager Casper Jangale, followed by Technical Director Benjamin Kumwenda, and then Marketing and Broadcasting Manager Tulipo Mwenelupembe, among others.
