Mbola Warns Chipolopolo: No Room for Complacency at CHAN 2025

Former Zambia National Team left-back Emmanuel Mbola has urged the Chipolopolo boys not to underestimate their opponents at the upcoming CHAN tournament, emphasizing that football has evolved.

The Chipolopolo will be making their fifth appearance at the tournament, aiming to secure their first-ever CHAN title, having previously won bronze in the 2009 edition.

Mbola, who is no longer active in professional football, has made 54 appearances for Zambia since making his debut in 2008. The former TP Mazembe defender was also the youngest player at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Angola.

Speaking in a telephone interview on ZNBC’s Radio 4 sports program, Mbola warned the team against complacency.

“I think every tournament is a different ball game altogether. Now, you know, most of the teams are improving in football. Previously, it was easy for Zambia to beat Kenya and other teams, but I think it won’t be an easy group for us. We have to work extra hard and respect every opponent for us to move forward in the group,” he said.

The former Nkana player also encouraged local players to take full advantage of the opportunity the CHAN tournament provides.

“CHAN tournament is very important especially for local players because it’s an opportunity and chance to show skill and talent so that you can be spotted outside the country. I’m one good example that was picked through the CHAN qualifiers,” noted Mbola.

Zambia has been drawn in Group A alongside tournament hosts Kenya, Morocco, DR Congo, and Angola.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on 2nd August and run until 30th August 2025.
