ZESCO United coach Mwenya Chipepo has expressed disappointment after his side were held to a goalless draw by Green Buffaloes in a Stream B MTN Super League encounter at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka on Wednesday.
Chipepo felt ZESCO had done enough to secure maximum points but were let down by their inability to convert their scoring opportunities.
“I am not happy as a coach. We are working hard, we are creating chances, but we are not scoring,” Chipepo said after the match.
He said the team needed to improve its finishing if it was to turn its performances into victories.
“We are not happy. We will be happy if we start scoring,” he said.
Chipepo added that the international break would provide an opportunity for the technical bench to work on the players’ finishing and sharpen their attacking play.
Both sides created opportunities during the encounter, with Green Buffaloes coming close to taking the lead in the 12th minute when Paul Mbuyi’s close-range effort was parried away by Patrick Chooma.
ZESCO also threatened from set-pieces, with Abraham Siankombo heading Allan Mumba’s long throw-in towards goal in the 30th minute, only for the Buffaloes defence to clear the danger.
The visitors had another opportunity in the 72nd minute when Emmanuel Manda picked out Allan Mumba with a well-weighted pass, but the midfielder failed to direct his header on target.
The draw takes ZESCO United to 10 points, while Green Buffaloes move to 12 points. Stream B leaders Green Eagles remain on 14 points.
