Malawi’s interim coach, Kalisto Pasuwa, has released his first squad for the Malawi Men’s National Football Team, the Flames, just four days after taking over from Patrick Mabedi who was sacked following back-to-back losses.

The Zimbabwean has called up six players from his club, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, from one under Mabedi’s tenure.

His assistant, Peter Mponda, who coaches the Silver Strikers, has also contributed five players, with the Mighty Mukuru Wanderers adding four.

The former Dynamos coach has also recalled Marumo Gallant’s striker Gabadinho Mhango, who was kicked out of the team by Mabedi.

Flames interim head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has named a 25-man squad for the last 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burundi and Burkina Faso next week.

Other players recalled is defender Charles Petro, who plays for FC Botosani in Romania, and striker Richard Mbulu, who plays for Costal Do Sol in Mozambique.

Pasuwa and Mponda’s first task is to complete the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Malawi will play Burundi away and Burkina Faso at home.

The Flames are winless after losing to Senegal (home and away), Burkina Faso away, and Burundi at home.

Pasuwa has not been given any targets but FAM stated that a decision will be made based on the team’s performance.
