Malawi Women’s Football team coach Lovemore Fazili says he is not under pressure facing Ghana in the Women’s Africa Cup of the Nation 2026 (WAFCON) on Sunday.
Fazili says playing Ghana is the same as playing Zambia, so they are not under any pressure.
Speaking ahead of the quarterfinal match, Fazili says their target is to qualify for the World Cup.
“It’s a quarterfinal; there is a lot to fight for if we progress. We are not underway. We lost to Zambia; we played well but lost the match. We worked out our mistakes. Winning against Ghana means we are off to the Semis; there is World Cup qualification at stake“
“I am dreaming of qualifying for the World Cup. This is our dream; it will happen for the first time in the history of Malawi football. This is our target for now; the rest will follow after we qualify,” said Fazili.
Malawi lost 4-0 to Ghana in a friendly match last month, but Fazili said that will not give them pressure.
Malawi will miss three key players, Leticia Chinyamula, Madina Nguluwe, and Sabina Thom, due to injuries.
“We have a plan B to replace them; we have good players to do the job for us,” said Fazili.
