Kings Kangwa

Nebert Phiri, a football coach believes Zambian midfielder Kings Kangwa has the quality to succeed in any of Europe’s top five leagues.

He argues that the midfielder’s reported move from Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva to Greek giants Panathinaikos does not reflect his true market value.

Phiri notes that the 27-year-old’s performances over the past two seasons demonstrate that he is capable of playing for some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

“Kings Kangwa signing for Panathinaikos, is a wrong move, and his transfer money is €4 million, which I feel the player is not well valued for,” Phiri said.

He pointed to Kangwa’s impressive statistics, highlighting the midfielder’s contribution of 29 goals and 21 assists in 86 matches for Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

“He has scored in big matches, and he also assisted the winning goal for Hapoel Be’er Sheva in their UEFA Champions League Round Two tie, sending them to the next round in his farewell match,” he said.

“Kangwa can play at Milan or Real Madrid” – Phiri.

Kangwa provided the decisive assist as the Israeli champions overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit against Vikingur with a 2-0 second-leg victory, sealing progression in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

While acknowledging that Kangwa is still building his legacy, Phiri said the player’s representatives should pursue opportunities at clubs competing in Europe’s elite leagues.

“He is not yet a legend, but we need his agent to have high-level relationships so that he can sign for big clubs with such a scoring history,” he said.

Phiri suggested that Kangwa has the attributes to play for clubs such as Inter Milan, Arsenal, Aston Villa, AC Milan, and Real Madrid, describing the Chipolopolo midfielder as a selfless player whose creativity and vision make him an asset to any team.

“His playing style is that of value. He values other players, and he is a team player. That is why he has more assists,” Phiri said. “He will never fail if he goes to any team in the top five leagues.”

The veteran coach further called for greater support for talented Zambian footballers, saying more local players deserve opportunities to showcase their abilities on the biggest stages in European football.
