Mufulira Wanderers Football Club has announced that their defender Bwembya Kakungu has been sentenced to six months in prison for assault.
In a statement issued on Friday, the club said it had taken note of Kakungu’s conviction and subsequent prison sentence.
“Mufulira Wanderers Football Club has taken note of the conviction and subsequent six-month prison sentence handed down to our player, Bwembya Kakungu, for assault.”
“The Club respects the decision of the Court and wishes to state that violence and assault have no place in Mufulira Wanderers Football Club, football or society.
“We uphold the values of discipline, respect and responsible conduct, both on and off the field. The Club is reviewing the matter in accordance with its internal policies, the player’s contractual obligations and applicable football regulations.
“Any further decision regarding the player’s status will be communicated through the appropriate channels.”
