Power Dynamos’ 2025/26 season campaign could be capped with their first ABSA Cup trophy in 15 years as they seek to complete a domestic double on Sunday against Red Arrows at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
After winning the MTN Super League with four games to spare, the Kitwe side has now shifted focus to the ABSA Cup, with Oswald Mutapa saying the team has achieved almost all its targets, with the cup title the only remaining piece needed to complete a fully successful season.
“We feel we have done enough in terms of finding ourselves in the final and looking back at what our benchmarks were; They said we have to playing in the group stage of the CAF Champions league, which we did. We have won the league, and now we are pushing to win the ABSA Cup, which was one of the benchmarks we set for ourselves. So we have to go for it,” Mutapa told a press conference on Friday in Ndola.
Respect to Arrows -Mutapa
On facing Red Arrows, the side that eliminated them in the semifinals last year, Mutapa said he has great respect for the Airmen.
“They factor in the same league and they’re second to us, so you can’t rule them out. We have to give them the respect. This is football. Like I said, you can only win when you get your moments right and believe; that’s how football is.”
Mutapa, however, is not focused on avenging last season’s heartbreak, insisting that this year’s final is a different challenge altogether.
“We played in the semifinals the previous season and this is the final, which we feel is ours to lose if we don’t apply ourselves very well, because we have been a team to beat and everyone will attest to that; we have just been on a different level. So it’s just the application again for me that was last season.”
