Power Dynamos have set their eyes on ending their 15-year wait for an ABSA Cup title when they enter the competition at the round of 16 stages this season.
Power is among the most decorated teams in Zambia, but success in the ABSA Cup has eluded them, having last won the competition in 2011 when it was still the Barclays Cup.
Last season, they came close but fell short at the semi-final stage when they lost 1–0 to Red Arrows at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
On Monday, they were handed a relatively fair draw for their round of 16 tie, as they will face a provincial side.
According to the draw, Power will play the winner of the preliminary round tie between Nampundwe Stars and Mikalile.
Reacting to the draw, the club stated that they will be hoping to go all the way and reach the final.
“Power Dynamos will be aiming for a stronger run this season after falling short in last year’s semifinals, where they were eliminated by Red Arrows. The Kitwe giants will be hopeful of going one step further and lifting the trophy,” a citation on the club’s Facebook page read in part.
The competition promises to be the biggest ever, as clubs chase the K1,100,000 jackpot and qualification for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
