Messi recalled some moments during the World Cup, including his celebration after their quarterfinal win against the Netherlands and his remark to Manchester United midfielder Wout Weghorst.

The PSG star yelled at Dutch player Weghorst, “Go there, stupid man,” and he has admitted that he now regrets what he said in Qatar.

“I don’t like what I did, and what happened later,” Messi told Urbana play about his celebration and yelling.

He described his reactions at the World Cup as moments of tension, and confrontations.

“These are moments of great tension,” he said. “A lot of anxiousness, everything happens very quickly and you don’t have time to think about anything. Nothing was planned, it happened like that and as I say, it isn’t an image I like to give off.”

“Everything that came out was natural; a lot happened on the field with that player (Weghorst), in reality, and more. At that moment, there was tension, friction, and confrontation,” he said. “I was in the mixed zone and the game had just finished.”

Messi won the player of the tournament award after helping Argentina win their third World Cup. He scored 7 goals in the competition including a brace in the Qatar final.
