Zambia’s next generation of talent is expected to participate in a FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) tournament in Ivory Coast next month.
This under-17 event will have the likes of Morocco, and South Africa who boast of one of the best youth structures. Others include Tanzania, Egypt, and the young Elephants of Ivory Coast.
The FIFA Talent Development Scheme aims to help member associations maximize their potential and close regional competitiveness gaps.
This model tournament is replicated in each of the five FIFA member confederations.
“Based on an in-depth analysis of talent development ecosystems, this programme aims to provide every young player the opportunity to develop themselves fully by reinforcing the framework of their global journey,” a statement on the Federation of Ivorian Football (FIF) website read in part.
The first edition was held in Morocco last year.
“After the success of the first edition in Morocco in 2023 where the Elephanteaux Cadets U17 represented their country brilliantly, Côte d’Ivoire was chosen to host the second edition of this prestigious tournament.
“This edition will bring together six participating nations: Ivory Coast, Morocco, South Africa, Algeria, Tanzania, and Zambia,” FIF stated.
The tournament falls under the programme spearheaded by legendary coach Arsene Wenger, who is FIFA Chief of Global Football Development.
