Coach Lovemore Fazili, who led the Scorchers of Malawi to their first Cosafa Women’s Championship title last October, is now jobless.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM), under the previous president Walter Nyamilandu, had promised him a permanent contract as the women’s national team upon his arrival at Chileka International Airport from South Africa with the triumphant scorchers.

The 53-year-old’s contract with FAM, which was only for eight months, expired in December last year. He expected to be offered a two-year extension, but he is still waiting, a thing which has disappointed him.

“The situation is bad; I cannot cope as my deal with FAM ended in December. I have been waiting for the promised offer till to date,” said Fazili.

Fazili was reportedly approached by five Malawi Super League teams to be their manager, but he declined on the assumption that FAM would offer him a long-awaited contract, which did not materialize. It is now difficult for him to get out of a situation that has landed him in a financial crisis.

Meanwhile, FAM competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka has disclosed to BolaNews that the association is still discussing with the Malawi government to offer Fazili a deal.

“We have been talking to the Malawi government over the matter; hopefully this will be settled for once,” he said.

Fazili is the first Scorchers coach to win a regional championship in Malawian football history.

He was also named Malawi’s best coach in 2023 after following the Cosafa milestone with the Women’s National Team.
