Zesco Ndola Girls FC head coach William Zulu has shifted attention to the COSAFA-CAF Women’s Champions League after sealing the ZPL Women’s Super League.
The Ndola side won their second consecutive league title after beating Luyando Foundation in a rescheduled Week 31 fixture 7-0 on Wednesday to amass 85 points after 33 matches.
With only one match left, the title race was settled, as Green Buffaloes follow behind with 80 points with the same number of matches played.
Speaking after the match, Zulu explained how his side managed to maintain the same momentum throughout the season.
He states that the team learned that it was important to score goals, especially after its outing in the COSAFA-CAF Women’s Champions League.
Zulu further adds that they have depth in the squad as well as the right balance in the striking force.
“First, I can say we went there [Champions League tournament] to pick one or two things. We know now winning the league is about scoring, and going into competition is about scoring,” he said.
“So we concentrated on the front line so that we could consolidate our winning ways. As it stands, we have good depth in the team, and the girls are doing it right. That’s why we have seen the flow of the game. They are even enjoying possessing the ball. There is coordination in our team, and we are one. So I think I’m happy with the team.”
Zulu described the season as challenging because every team wanted to prove a point when they met Zesco Ndola Girls.

“Even last season, the league was so competitive. Last season compared to this one, we were the target because we won the league last season, so every team wanted to beat us. It was so difficult for us and challenging,” he explained.
On returning to the regional CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, Zulu explained that they will use this season’s experience to do better than they did in their maiden appearance.
He said that their mission this season is to reach the group stages of the CAF Women’s Champions League tournament.
“We will continue with our preparation, and we will go there with a mission. Now our mission is different from the previous one. Because in the previous one, it was our first time going there, and we reached the finals. We lost the finals through penalties. Now this time we are going there for a mission,” he said.
“As we go to COSAFA our mission will be going to CAF [Women’s Champions League]. That is our mission. So we have to go there, not as underdogs now. We are going there as giants. So we go there and do the needed thing. Then from there we have to go to CAF.”
