Manchester United: A Fresh Start After a Nightmare Season

Manchester United endured one of their worst ever Premier League seasons in 2023/24, finishing 15th and suffering defeat in the UEFA Europa League final. Despite the setbacks, manager Ruben Amorim keeps the backing of the board, and a summer rebuild worth nearly £200m has given fans fresh hope.

United’s new-look attack features Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško, who will all be looking to hit the ground running. However, Amorim faces an uphill battle, with data from Opta ranking United’s opening five fixtures as the toughest of any team this season. A fast start is crucial.

Arsenal: Chasing the Title Once Again

Arsenal enter their 100th consecutive top-flight season still chasing a first league title since 2004. After three straight years finishing second, the pressure is on Mikel Arteta to finally deliver.

The arrival of Viktor Gyökeres could solve the Gunners’ long-standing striker issue, and fans will be eager to see if he can be the difference-maker. Arsenal have made a habit of starting strong, winning each of their last three opening-day fixtures, and another victory here would be a huge statement of intent.

Head-to-Head Record

This rivalry rarely disappoints. Last season, the two sides couldn’t be separated, each winning once with one draw. At Old Trafford, United hold a strong record, losing only twice in the last 18 league meetings with Arsenal (W10, D6).

Even so, the Gunners have found ways to score in Manchester — they’ve netted in each of their last 11 Premier League visits to Old Trafford.

Hot Stats

  • Manchester United have won their opening Premier League fixture more times than any other side (22).
  • Arsenal managed just one clean sheet in their last seven league games of 2023/24 (W2, D2, L3).
