ZESCO United assistant coach Tenant Chilumba remains confident that the Ndola side will win the 2023-24 Super League title with seven games remaining.
Zega Mambo drew 2-2 against ZANACO Football Club on Sunday, and the Airmen now lead the Super League table with 7 points after defeating Power Dynamos 1–0 on Saturday afternoon.
ZESCO has two league draws, causing them to lose their lead over the Red Arrows.
Despite the result, Chilumba remains optimistic that ZESCO United will win the Super League title, stating that they have everything to play for in their upcoming midweek match against Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium.
“We are still confident that we will get good results and get back to the top. If you look at the way we played today [Sunday], we are still confident. We have a game against Arrows, and I think we’ll carry the day,” Chilumba said.
Chilumba bemoaned the team’s missed scoring chances and a leaky defense.
“We are happy with the performance; we created a lot of chances, but we didn’t score. The good thing is that we are creating chances. We conceded two goals at home. Going forward, we will work on that; we should concede goals like that,” he stated.
“If you look at the permutations, Arrows have scored more goals than us. The only thing we need to do is manage the game.”
ZESCO United defeated Arrows 1-0 in their first match in Ndola, but the Airmen are currently on a 10-match unbeaten streak, including five consecutive Super League victories.
Meanwhile, the nine-time league champions have struggled for consistency this season and understand that anything less than a win in Lusaka could hand the Arrows the league title.
