Zanaco Football Club head coach Numba Mumamba has voiced concern over his team’s lack of efficiency in front of goal despite Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Mutondo Stars in a Week 9 MTN Super League encounter played at Sunset Stadium.
The win lifted Zanaco back to the top of the table with 21 points, three ahead of Red Arrows in second and four clear of FC MUZA in third.
Speaking after the match, Mumamba acknowledged the importance of the result but admitted his side must improve their conversion rate if they are to maintain momentum and meet their ABSA Cup qualification target.
“A very important win on our part. It was a difficult game to win. Mutondo came with a lot of energy and determination, but our teamwork paid off, and we scored from set pieces — another positive for us,” he said.
However, the Zanaco boss was quick to highlight his team’s struggles in attack.“We need to improve on our finishing in front of goal. We created chances early in the game but couldn’t convert them. This has been our main weakness — we create many chances but fail to finish them off.”

Mumamba emphasized that consistency and focus will be key if the youthful Zanaco side is to sustain their strong start.“It’s a marathon; staying on top is not easy. We have a very young team that is still developing. Our aim in the first round is to finish in the top four so we can qualify for the ABSA Cup, then push further in the second round,” he said.
Both of Zanaco’s goals came from set pieces, a result of dedicated training.
“It’s something we’ve been working on week in and week out, and today it paid off,” Mumamba added, praising his defenders for their execution.
