Roan United is back in the top flight for the first time since their relegation in 2014 after earning promotion to the MTN Super League on Saturday.
The Luanshya-based club, which was the inaugural winner of the Zambian top-flight league when they clinched the then Northern Rhodesia National Football League title in 1962, beat Forest Rangers 5-1 at Kafubu Stadium to secure a return to the top tier with a game to spare.
Trident FC is also back in the top flight for a second stint following their relegation in their debut 2023/24 season. They defeated Aquila Stars 1-0 on Saturday to secure an immediate return to the Super League.
Both Roan United and Trident FC are level on 64 points and will battle for the ZPL National League title on the final day of the season.
On Sunday, Makeni All Stars became the third team to seal promotion to the Super League after beating Kafue Celtic 3-1, joining Roan United and Trident FC, while leaving one more promotion ticket up for grabs alongside a tight relegation battle.

It’s the first time Makeni will be playing in the top flight.
With the promotion of the three teams now confirmed, only one slot remains available. Chirundu United are in pole position to secure it, as they have two games in hand and need just one point to gain promotion.
However, fifth-placed Forest Rangers will be hoping the Border Boys lose all their remaining matches to keep their own promotion hopes alive.
