Tenant Chilumba has guided NAPSA Stars, to victory, their first to end a four-game winless drought after beating Mines United 1-0 at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe on Saturday.
Matthew Tolopa scored the only goal of the fixture in the 3rd minute, giving the Pensioners, the much-needed three points.
With this victory, Napsa Stars is 13th placed on the table with 23 points from 22 games played so far.
The Lusaka-based side finally redeemed themselves after suffering a 3-1 humiliating defeat at the hands of Power Dynamos in their previous fixture.
Since taking over the reign to replace Sipho Mumbi, Chilumba has finally recorded his first victory.
Speaking to the club’s media after the match, Chilumba is happy with the result.
“But of course we are disappointed; we wanted to score more goals because at the log we are not okay. It’s a crucial game again against the Buffaloes; we still have to work hard,” noted Chilumba.
“I think we fought; this is what we have been looking for. I think the boys played well, although in the second half we struggled a bit. Very tactical. So they wanted to equalize, but still I am happy with the level of the fitness,” he said.
“We just have to continue working hard. Buffaloes, again, the other weekend we still need to push; we are not okay on the log. But still a lot of work to do. I think we have to go and sit with the technical bench and see where we went wrong,” he added.
Up next for Napsa Stars, is Green Buffaloes in a Lusaka derby billed for REIZ Arena on 8th March, 2026.
