Congolese striker, Idris Mbombo scored the only goal in the 31st minute to give Nkana the bragging rights over Mufulira Wanderers in the Mopani derby at Nkana stadium on Sunday.

The win saw Nkana complete a season double over their bitter rivals.

Nkana head coach Mwenya Chipepo told journalists that it was a tough home game against a well-prepared Mufulira Wanderers side.

“We are very happy as a technical bench winning at home, though it was a very difficult game. Mufulira Wanderers played well, what we needed was to just pick the three points,” Chipepo said.

Kalampa’s dominance over Wanderers has been extended to three wins in a row.

Chipepo acknowledged the resilience of their opponents, emphasizing that it was never an easy fixture.

“This was a derby, a Mopani Derby. We were playing a very difficult side, very determined,” he added.

The victory was crucial for Nkana, who were bouncing back from a defeat against Nchanga Rangers in their previous league match.

Chipepo believes teams are giving Nkana a harder time because of their reputation for playing good football.

“Last week we lost against Nchanga Rangers. Winning this game was very important. We keep on fighting hard because every game we are playing is very difficult because they know that we are playing good football,” he concluded.
