Nkana Football Club assistant coach Josphat Nkhoma has set his sights on maximum points against FC MUZA as the Kitwe giants push for a strong finish to their MTN Super League campaign after surviving relegation.

Nkana recorded a hard-fought 1-0 victory over ZESCO United in a Week 32 clash at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, a result that lifted Kalampa to safety by moving into 13th place with 38 points, level with ZESCO, who hold 12th on goal difference.

Speaking after the win, Nkhoma praised his players for responding positively after a difficult run of results, revealing that the technical bench had focused on motivating the squad ahead of the fixture.

“The first thing we did was to psych our players, looking at where we are coming from. We really wanted this win today,” Nkhoma said.

“Like we said in the last interview, we were going for a win, not even a draw. The guys have done it, and it’s a good win. It’s a sweet victory for all of us and our supporters.”

Despite the crucial three points, Nkhoma said the focus shifts immediately to the final two matches.

“We are looking at the last two games remaining, and we want maximum points because our target is to finish on a good note,” he said. “If we win our next two games, we can finish on around 43 points. So our target is to win our last two games.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash against MUZA, Nkhoma acknowledged another stern test — describing the Mazabuka-based side as dangerous opponents, particularly on the road.

“Everyone knows it is not a simple game playing MUZA. They have been recording most of their victories away from home, so we know it won’t be easy,” he said. “But with our supporters and the support we are receiving right now, we just have to get maximum points against MUZA.”

Nkhoma also dedicated the victory to the club’s supporters, acknowledging the pressure they have endured this season.
