Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) and TopStar to resolve the ongoing MTN Super League broadcast impasse, warning that legal action could be taken if contractual obligations are not honoured.
TopStar, who last year signed a five-year broadcast deal with ZPL worth $1 million per season, has not televised any Super League match since November 2025.

Speaking on Saturday during the official opening of the FAZ Strategic Plan Working Group workshop at the Golden Peacock Hotel, Mweemba made it clear that the matter must be resolved urgently.
“It is important that our broadcasting partners, such as Topstar, are brought to the round table, and this issue must be resolved. This issue must be resolved within the next 72 hours.”
He stressed that contracts must be respected and warned of possible legal enforcement if necessary.
“Contractual obligations must be respected. When you enter into a deal, you sign a contract, and every contract has an enforcement provision of the law. So I want the issue of broadcasting with Topstar resolved as a matter of urgency; it has to be resolved. If it entails invoking the legal enforcement provisions, then it must be done.

Mweemba also revealed that FAZ could open discussions with other broadcasters, including SuperSport and Azam, for a possible partnership if the situation is not addressed promptly.
“And now obviously the law was amended, and there are no more issues of monopoly or exclusivity clauses. We should be able to engage other broadcasters and cooperating partners. We can still re-engage in sports. AZAM has kept its doors open. I think we can do more than we are doing, and I want my executive and I, through Zambian Premier League and TopStar. this has to be resolved as a matter of urgency.”
Mweemba emphasized that the matter must be resolved immediately.
“I invite our Zambian Premier League to take this matter very, very seriously and find an immediate solution,” he said.
“Football is the biggest sports industry in the world, and we should be able to get value for money. We need to create a win-win situation with our cooperating partners so that they understand the importance of mutual collaboration,” he added.
