Zesco Ndola Girls goalkeeper Hazel Nali has shifted her focus to the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after helping the Ndola-based side clinch the 2025/26 ZPL Women’s Super League title.
Nali, who has kept eight clean sheets in the season, expressed delight at winning the league and described the achievement as a dream come true for every player.
“It feels great because every player’s dream is obviously to be champions and win the league. So it feels so good as a player to win the league,” she said.
The shot-stopper has been a key figure for Zesco Ndola Girls this season, cementing her place in the starting line-up and playing an integral role in the club’s successful title defence.
She reflected on her return from injury to winning the league.
Nali admitted the journey back to full fitness had not been easy but credited the club’s technical bench and her teammates for helping her regain confidence.
“It hasn’t been easy, especially coming back from a very long injury. It took time, but being on this team helped me a lot, especially the coaches who believed in me and my teammates who were always happy for me. ” she said.
“I need to focus on hard work” – Nali.
Nali said teamwork had been central to the club’s success this season.
“It has been tough and hard, but football is a game of teamwork. We have been working together, and everyone had to put in the hard work for us to become champions.”
With the domestic season concluding this weekend, Nali says she will now turn her attention to national duty and Zambia’s WAFCON campaign, which also serves as a pathway to qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nali, was part of Zambia’s historic World Cup qualification squad despite not featuring at the tournament due to an injury.
“The only thing I need to focus on is hard work because hard work beats talent. It is very important because I’m looking forward to being at the World Cup again. I was there, but I didn’t play, so it calls for me and the team to work hard so that we qualify and, God willing, I get to play,” she said.
