Zimbabwe’s national team and clubs competing in the CAF interclub competition could soon return to playing home matches in the country following inspections of the state-of-the-art Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe by the football governing body.
The home of Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League’s newcomers Hardrock FC on Saturday underwent its first CAF with the construction processes in the final stages before full completion, in readiness for the 2026 season that kicks off in two weeks.
CAF stadiums inspector Aloys Mpambara, was impressed by the venue and facility.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa will open the facility on February 28.
“We had a Caf inspector here from Rwanda. He’s primarily here to make some checks in preparation for the final inspection. What he’s basically doing here is checking on the progress that we’ve done and also helping us to align our finishing up with the CAF standards,” club board chair, Charles Chahwanda said.

“We are indeed quite happy. He highlighted a few areas that we were already looking at. It’s those small areas, especially the media areas, that he was trying to get some clarification on. All is well. “They’re appreciating the progress we’re making,” Chahwanda said.
The Zimbabwe national team have been playing their AFCON and World Cup qualifiers in South Africa due to a lack of FIFA- and CAF-approved venues in the country. The situation has been the same for the clubs in the CAF Champions League as well as the CAF Confederation Cup.
