Newly promoted Super League side Mines United could suffer a major setback ahead of the 2025/26 season due to ongoing contract controversies involving several key players, BolaNews has learned.
Sources have told BolaNews that most of the club’s standout performers currently have no binding contracts and may be on the verge of leaving in search of better opportunities elsewhere.
Mines United earned promotion to the Super League after finishing third in the National League standings, an impressive feat in their debut season.
However, a number of their core players who were instrumental in securing promotion are understood to be out of contract.
Among them is defender Luka Nguni, whose six-month deal with the club has expired. He is now expected to join another team after a stellar season in which he featured in 34 matches and helped the side concede just six goals.
Top scorer Nicolas Mulilo, on loan from Green Buffaloes, netted nine goals and provided four assists in 34 matches. Progress Malama followed closely with eight goals, while goalkeeper Augustine Nkole managed nine clean sheets in 13 appearances.
Despite these contributions, a source close to the club disclosed to BolaNews that many players are set to exit due to the lack of contract renewals.
“Most of the named players don’t have contracts, and the club is reluctant in renewing their contracts. Some of the players have been approached by some clubs and they could be leaving the team soon,” said the source.
Mines United have yet to make any signings during the off-season and will be hoping to replicate their strong form as they prepare for their Super League debut.
Meanwhile, efforts to get a comment from officials at the club were unsuccessful by the time of this publication.
