Mufulira Wanderers Football Club is set to unveil former FC MUZA head coach Lameck Banda as their new boss on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after announcing the parting of ways with Tenant Chilumba, BolaNews understands.

Chilumba, who joined the legendary Super League outfit in October 2024, left the club by mutual agreement, with the news confirmed by Wanderers in an official statement on Monday evening.

“Mufulira Wanderers Football Club wishes to announce that it has reached a mutual agreement to part ways with Head Coach Tenant Chilumba, effective 13th June 2025,” read part of the statement.

Sources close to the club revealed that Chilumba tendered his resignation on June 13, with the official announcement delayed until June 23 as internal discussions progressed.

With the Chilumba era now over, attention has swiftly shifted to Banda, who is expected to take charge immediately and begin preparations for the upcoming season. He is reportedly set to be assisted by Bupe Chewe, reuniting the coaching pair who last worked together at Prison Leopards during the 2023–24 campaign.

Chewe had since joined River Plate Football Club, while Banda returned to FC MUZA. However, both men departed their respective clubs before the end of the 2024–25 season, with Banda remaining unattached since, and Chewe completing the campaign with Kafue Eagles.

Why Lameck Banda?

Wanderers insiders describe Banda as a coach who fits the club’s long-term ambitions, pointing to his proven track record in youth development and competitive results.

Banda is best remembered for guiding FC MUZA to a second-place finish in the 2022–23 MTN Super League season, securing continental football for the Mazabuka-based side. That same season, he also led the team to the ABSA Cup final, where they narrowly lost out to Forest Rangers.

Wanderers fans will now look to Banda to bring stability and competitive consistency to a team eager to recapture its former glory.

An official unveiling is expected on Tuesday.
