Zambian midfielder Lazarous  Kombole has revealed the secret behind his newly found form at Zesco United.

Kambole, who is on a six-month loan from Tanzanian club Young Africans to Zesco, was reunited with coach George Lwandamina, under whose tutelage he achieved the record for the fastest hat-trick in CAF Champions League history when he scored three goals in five minutes against Mbabane Swallows in 2018.

The 28-year-old midfielder left Zesco in 2019 to sign with South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs. After two unsuccessful seasons with the Soweto-based club where he only managed to score two goals in 46 appearances, he moved to Young Africans.

He made only one competitive appearance for the Tanzanian side in the Mapinduzi Cup.

Kambole has become a darling of many Zesco fans, having scored in each of his first three starts.

He now has four goals in three Super League matches, including a brace against Green Eagles.

However, the former Chipolopolo attacker has explained why he has regained form since his return to Zesco.

Speaking after a 1-1 draw against league leaders, Power Dynamos, on Saturday, in which he scored the only goal for the Ndola-based side, Kambole revealed that his incredible form is the result of the work he was doing when he was in the “Cave of Adullam.”

“It’s great to be home; I am happy and excited; I am enjoying my moment at Zesco,” he said during a postmatch interview at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe. “I think it’s the work I have been doing when I was in the cave of Adullam which is like my first thing to what you are seeing on the pitch.”

Kambole’s cave of Adullam explained

He appeared to have metaphorically meant he has been praying to God for divine intervention like David in the bible sought refuge in the cave of Adullam from King Saul.

‘The Cave of Adullam is the place in Christians’ lives where they quit trying to make God’s plans and promises come to pass and surrender and let God bring them to pass with his own plans.’

After a sluggish start to the season, Zesco is currently fighting for a top-four finish, while Kambole has taken the Zambian Super League by storm. This suggests that his prayers may have been answered.

With 31 points from 23 games, Zesco is 10th in the log standings. They have gone five games without losing, winning two and drawing two.
