Kabwe Warriors football Club this season has not been performing well despite having recruited a veteran coach, George Lwandamina.
The Magnificent people’s team are sitting in the 12th position having collected 7 points from 6 games played so far.
They have only managed to win one game under Lwandamina, drawn four and lost one with their home form so far this season described by many pundits as “average” which does not look good for the Kabwe-based team.
The five times Super League Champions last won the league title in 1987 since then it’s been a dry spell for the Zambia Railways teams.
WHAT HAPPENED AT KABWE WARRIORS BEFORE LWANDAMINA?
Kabwe Warriors in April 2021, hired former Chipolopolo midfielder Ian Bakala as first assistant coach Chabby Chabala.
Bakala took over as interim head coach for the team following the sacking of Chabala due to a poor string of results.
It was during Bakala’s reign that the team managed to qualify for the CAF Confederations campaign for the first time after 30 years.
However, Kabwe warriors exco decided to bring in Manfred Chabinga as they were preparing for the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation tournament in which they were eliminated in the first round of the competition.
Bakala was now appointed as head coach and he was in charge for the last nine super league games in which he won five and one ended in a draw the results which help the team finish fourth in the league.
Warriors before hiring Bakala only managed to win one game in their last six games and sat on position 7 with 35 points just seven points away from the relegation zone.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT ?
Kabwe warriors parted ways with Bakala on mutual agreement and later hired coach Chris Kaunda in January this year on a six months contract but he left a month after being told his contract was not going to be extended.
Veteran coach George Lwandamina was then appointed as head coach at the start of this season.
The former Zambia National team Coach penned a two-year deal with the people’s team mid this year with the club hoping the veteran will help them take the league title at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium.
HOW IS LWANDAMINA’S PERFORMANCE SO FAR ?
Things don’t seem to be working in his favour so far in Kabwe.
The former Zesco United coach despite having vast experience in football and being one of the best coaches in the country, his performance so far has triggered a lot of unanswered questions as to what the problem is at warriors as the team has only won one game out of the six games played.
Lwandamina who once in his post-match interview said, “We are still building a team and once the players get my philosophy then the team will begin to collect maximum points.” has remained optimistic about the team.
WHAT IS THE FUTURE ?
Multiple social media reports have emerged indicating that coach Lwandamina has applied to fill the vacancy of a head coach at Ghanaian club Hearts of Oak who parted company with Samuel Boadu.
The club are without a head coach as they are currently without looking for a new coach with their under-20 coach Samuel Nii Nortey appointed as interim head coach.
It remains to be since if the vetaran coach will leave Kabwe warriors after just being in charge of six games or he will stay and continue with his promised “team building” in Kabwe.
