Beating Power Dynamos is not a big achievement—Lwandamina

The gaffer said Nchanga's win over Power Dynamos was big for the club, not him.

George Lwadamina does not read too much into his team’s 1-0 win over Power Dynamos, bragging that it is a big win for Nchanga Rangers and not him as a coach.

Since replacing Robert Tembo at Rangers, Lwandamina has steadied the ship, recording important results for the Chingola side.

The biggest win came against Power, denying the former Champions a place at the summit.

“Not for me,” Lwandamina interjected when a reporter described the win as a big one for him. “For the team…me, I have achieved a lot in Zambia.”

Lwandamina is a league winner for Zesco United and was the first trainer to take a Zambian team to the semi-final of the new-format CAF Champions League.

Pressure Mounting on Mutapa

Meanwhile, two weeks ago, Power Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa spoke like a man with conviction, telling everyone that this is his club’s year to win the title.

That confidence rode on the back of four good results. The comment also acted as something to boost his team’s morale ahead of the Kitwe derby against Nkana.

Two matches after Mutapa’s statement, Power does not look like a team in serious contention for the title.

They have recorded their second straight loss to finish the first half of the season fourth, below rivals Nkana, who not so long ago were in the relegation zone while Power enjoyed being in the top two.

The 1–0 defeat to Nchanga Rangers, who again not so long ago were flirting with relegation, has piled pressure on Mutapa, a good tactician on his day.

If there is a game that they needed to win after the derby setback, it is the match against Rangers, considering how other results have turned up today.

With Zesco United recording a 1–1 draw against Atletico Lusaka, a win would have taken Power to the summit with 31 points.

After playing to a scoreless first half, Power players seemed to have forgotten whatever Mutapa told them during the break.

The former Champions went down a minute after the restart thanks to an Enock Kampukesa strike.

Rangers held their own and ensured they left for Chingola with all three points.

Pressure will not mount on Mutapa with the full knowledge that none of the Power coaches since 2016 have stayed the full duration of their contract.
