The Zambia Under-17 Women’s Team will participate in an eight-nation UEFA Under-18 Invitational tournament, which will be hosted by Turkey.

The tournament is scheduled for March 20 to April 10 in Istanbul.

According to Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga, the event will feature teams from five continents, with the teams drawn into two groups of four.

Kamanga explained that the matches will follow a round-robin format, with the semi-final and final determining the overall winners.

“We are lucky that UEFA has invited Zambia for an Under-18 eight-nation tournament in Turkey that takes place from March 29 to April 10 in Istanbul,” Kamanga said. “The eight teams will be drawn from five confederations, with the nations drawn in two groups of four. Participating teams will play three round-robin matches followed by finals.”

Kamanga emphasized that the tournament will provide valuable exposure to competitive opponents.

“We have no doubt our girls will benefit greatly from this opportunity to display their talent on an across-continent platform,” he stated.

Last year, Zambia dominated the COSAFA region, winning all of the women’s age-group regional tournaments.

“We hope that some of our graduates from the Under-15 crop can get international exposure,” Kamanga said.
