CAF unveils top 10 nominees for Women’s POTY, Kundananji and Chawinga snubbed

Copper Queens Barbra Banda has been shortlisted in the 10-women list for the CAF African Women’s Player of the Year Award, while Racheal Kundananji and Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga have been snubbed. fails to make the cut.

Kundananji scored 34 goals for the country and club, finishing the Liga F last season as the second top scorer with 25 goals, while Chawinga was the top scorer in Serie A with 23 goals for Inter Milan, becoming the first African woman to be the highest-scoring player in the Italian league.

Five-time winner and current holder of the award, Assisat Oshoala, has also been shortlisted and will look to scoop it for a record sixth.

Others include South Africa’s Andile Dlamini and Themba Kgatlana, with Morocco’s Annissa Lahmari also making the cut.

The Awards Gala will take place on Monday, 11 December 2023, at the Palais des Congrès, Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco.

CAF says the ultimate winner of each category will be decided after votes from a voting panel consisting of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals from member associations, head coaches, and captains of Member Associations and clubs involved in the group stages of the Interclub competitions.
