Zambia’s under-17 national team captain, Zangose Blessings Zulu was devastated following the team’s 2–0 loss to Poland, which ended their campaign at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Zulu expressed disappointment that the team was eliminated from the competition despite having numerous opportunities that they did not take advantage of.
She stated that the team lost the game due to lapses in concentration, which resulted in them conceding two goals.
“We did everything we could but it was not meant to be, we really did everything,” she bemoaned.
“We are disappointed; we played well, but we have mistakes we made. Even after conceding, we didn’t give up; we wanted to get back in the game, but it wasn’t just our day”
Midfielder Mary Mukupa also echoed the same sentiments as the captain, adding that the team was sorry for letting the nation down following the early elimination.
“We tried our best; we were unfortunate to allow early goals. We have learned that we need to avoid allowing early goals; it is difficult to equalize when you meet opponents that sit deep to defend,” Mukupa said.
Zambia’s next match will be on Wednesday against Japan, who beat Brazil 2-1 to move to four points, while Poland will take on Brazil in another Group D match.
