Elite Ladies midfielder Comfort Selemani has joined 2023-24 National women’s league winners, Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club on a short-term deal.

Selemani was part of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia, but missed out in 2024 Paris Olympic Games squad.

Green Buffaloes will represent Zambia in the COSAFA-CAF Champions League qualifiers in South Africa this year.

This is the second season in a row that Selemani will be playing for Green Buffaloes in the CAF Champions League regional qualifiers.

She was one of the Nyanta Girls’ most outstanding players the previous season, helping the team score one and assist two goals even though they were not able to qualify for the CAF Champions League after Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies FC won the competition.

Elite Ladies has revealed that Selemani’s loan spell will come to an end on August 28, 2024, covering the period of the qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Football Champions’ League.

However, should Green Buffaloes advance to the championship game and earn a spot in the CAF Champions later this year, there is a possibility to extend the K15, 000- (US$577) worthy loan agreement.

Selemani signed for CAF football only not league matches.

The club further states that Selemani will play in the Zambian Women’s Super League for her parent club.

“Her loan deal, worth a fee of K15, 000, does not cover local ZPL league games during that period,” read the statement. “If Green Buffaloes manages to qualify for the CAF Champions League proper, Selemani’s loan will be extended—at an additional fee—to cover the continental showpiece but will not cover local games, which she is expected to play for The Elite Ladies FC.”

The club has announced that she will remain at Elite Ladies FC as the bids were short of their set transfer fee. The midfielder, who has made more than 20 appearances for the Copper Queens, is free to leave when the club receives a considerable offer.

“Both bids fell well short of our valuation. The loan deal to the Buffaloes was the best option for the player right now while she waits for better offers from clubs outside the country, as she remains free to leave the club when we receive an acceptable offer,” the club stated.
