Popular Zambian songbirds, Wezi Mhone, Towela Kaira, and rapper Xaven have collaborated on a hit song dubbed “Copper Queens Anthem” to drum up support for the Zambia Women’s National Team, who will make their debut in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In the three-minute and sixteen-second song, the three hitmakers take turns singing praises for the Copper Queens while encouraging them to show the world their talents.
The video features a crowd of football supporters dancing to the song while donning their newly released KoPa jerseys.
Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema, makes an unexpected cameo in the video.
He is shown doing his now-famous “bally dance” with the three songbirds just outside the state house.
Lead singer in the song, Wezi, told BolaNews, “It was extremely exciting and humbling. His [Hichilema] is a hard worker, so for him to take time to do this means he values the work we do as artists and also pays attention to the accomplishments of our sportsmen and women.
“We came together for the women’s national team for their accomplishment,” Wezi further said as she explained the excitement of shooting the video with the President.
Hichilema’s support for the Copper Queens
Last August, Hichilema hosted a luncheon at the state house for the Copper Queens and Commonwealth Gold Medalist Muzala Samukonga.
He said, “Our sports people have energised us. You have renewed our hope as a country going forward. We should not be calling sports, football, and other things some of those other things. This is serious business.”
