Copper Queens to face Namibia in path to 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup

To qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, Zambia's sharpshooting Copper Queens must defeat Namibia in the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers.

The Copper Queens will face Namibia in the final round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers in October. Namibia secured their spot in the final round with a 1-0 victory over Eswatini on Wednesday, completing a 4-0 aggregate win.

The last time Zambia’s head coach, Nora Häuptle, faced Namibia was in the 2023 WAFCON qualifiers, where she suffered a 1-0 defeat with Ghana. However, she went on to guide Ghana to qualification with a 3-2 aggregate win, following a 3-1 victory in the first leg.

The matchups for the final round of qualifiers for the 2026 WAFCON, which will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, are as follows:

  • Angola vs Malawi
  • DR Congo vs South Africa
  • Tanzania vs Ethiopia
  • Namibia vs Zambia
  • Burkina Faso vs Togo
  • Algeria vs Cameroon
  • Egypt vs Ghana
  • Kenya vs Gambia
  • Benin vs Nigeria
  • Cape Verde vs Mali
  • Senegal vs Ivory Coast
