Copper Queens defender Lushomo Mweemba has signed a two-year contract with Kazakhstani club BIIK Kazygurt.
Her club, the Green Buffaloes, confirmed her departure on Friday afternoon.
“Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club would like to announce the departure of defender Lushomo Mweemba, who has since joined a Kazakhstani club, BIIK Shykment,” read the club statement obtained by BolaNews.
“This comes after a deal was agreed between Green Buffaloes and BIIK Shykment and she has since traveled this afternoon to Kazakhstan to join up with her new teammates.”
The statement continued: “Mweemba, who was our vice captain, has signed a 2-year contract with the club. As Green Buffaloes, we would like to thank her for the dedication she shown to the team and we wish her well in her future endeavours.”
Mweemba who was the first Zambian to score in a senior World Cup match will team up with her countrymen, defender Martha Tembo, and midfielder Ireen Lungu in Shymkent.
Many Copper Queens players have come up through BIIK, including Racheal Kundananji, Grace Chanda, Prisca Chilufya, and Hellen Chanda, who have all played for the 16-time Kazakhstani Champions.
