Kansas Current forward Temwa Chawinga won two awards at the 2025 Malawi Sports Awards held at the Sunbird Livingstonia Conference Centre in Salima District over the weekend.
The Kansas City Current forward was voted Sports Personality of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year 2025.
The two awards followed her impressive 2025 season, where she retained the Golden Boot with 15 league goals, becoming the first player to achieve the feat in two consecutive seasons.
The Malawi vice-captain also became the first player to win back-to-back MVP awards in National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) history.

Reacting to the recognition for the first time, Chawinga told BolaNews that she feels honoured to have achieved the milestone.
“Even a nomination is already a win for me; I do not take that for granted. I was not there in Salima during the awards ceremony but to the organisers they should know that I am happy and honoured.
“Above all, I should thank God, without him I could not have reached this far. A big thank you to all people who voted for me, God should bless them.
“To upcoming players like Rose [Kadzere], Faith [Chimzimu] and Deborah [Henry], they should keep working hard and keep believing in God. They should not only pray, but also put effort. Even during the off-season, they should keep training and putting in effort, very soon they will reach this far,” said Chawinga.
