Renowned Zambian actor and comedian Miyoba Sumaili has revealed his ambition to one day coach Zambian giants Nkana FC after successfully attaining his CAF D Coaching Certificate in Seychelles.
Best known for his acting roles in popular television productions such as Banja, Ulendo, Mpali, and Love Game, Sumaili says football has always been part of his life, and coaching is the next chapter he hopes to pursue.
Speaking in an interview, Sumaili revealed that his football journey started in Lusaka, where he played alongside notable players including Billy Mwanza, Josphat Nkhoma, and Donwell Yobe at Lusaka Dynamos Under-17 before turning out for Chainama Wanderers, Makeni United, Eagle Stars, and Judiciary FC, where he also played alongside 2012 Africa Cup-winning striker Emmanuel Mayuka.
“I always had a plan that one day I would coach a team, whether in Zambia or elsewhere,” Sumaili said.
He disclosed that while in Zambia, he had hoped to enrol for coaching courses but was often occupied with his acting career.
“When I was in Zambia, I really wanted to do a coaching course, but I was busy with acting programmes. Thank God I got the opportunity here after someone shared a link for the CAF D Licence course. I applied and was selected for training,” he explained.
I want to coach Nkana- Sumaili
Sumaili, who relocated to the Seychelles on March 3, 2025, said his long-term target is to coach at the highest level.
“I am aiming to one day coach a Zambian Super League team, especially Nkana, which is my team, and also coach the Zambia national team at the youth level, whether it is under-10, under-12, under-14 or under-17.”
To sharpen his skills, Sumaili says he is seeking voluntary coaching opportunities in Seychelles to gain practical experience before taking charge of a team.
The actor says many people will likely be surprised by his coaching ambitions, having known him mainly for his comedy and television roles, but he insists football remains a lifelong passion.
