Zambia Women’s National Team striker Barbra broke, set, and equaled multiple records at her maiden Olympics appearance.

Despite an underwhelming team effort at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, the Shanghai Shengli forward fired the back of the net at an unprecedented rate.

Barbra has this season scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists in just 5 games in the Chinese Women’s League.

After missing the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, she is expected to lead the Copper Queens at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Zambia will be making its debut.

The tournament is set to kick off in New Zealand and Australia from July 20th to August 20th. Barbra and her Copper Queens side are in Group C alongside Spain, Costa Rica, and Japan.

Meanwhile, Bolanews shines the light on the records the 23-year-old broke, set, and equaled in her last global international tournament.

1. Most Goals Scored in a Single Olympic Tournament with Fewer Games

Barbra scored six goals in two games, including a hat trick in a 10-3 loss to the Netherlands and an eight-goal tie with China.

2. Back-To-Back Hat-tricks

She became the first woman to score two consecutive hat tricks in Olympic history.

3. African record goal scorer at the Olympics

Her second goal against China at the 2020 Olympics beat Nigeria’s Mercy Akide’s all-time record of four Olympic goals by an African woman, as the Zambian now comfortably stands at six.

4. Most Hat-tricks

Barbra’s pair of trebles at the Olympics put her on par with Brazilian legend Cristiane as the only player to score multiple hat tricks in the tournament’s history. Cristiane scored them in two different editions.

5. Most Goals scored by an African female football player at a FIFA-organized tournament

Be it the World Cup or Olympics, the industrious forward scored the most goals [6] in a FIFA-organised tournament by an African woman, beating the two [2] goals scored by Mercy Akide in both the 2000 and 2004 Olympics and the three [3] goals scored by Nkiru Okasieme and Gaëlle Enganamouit in the 1999 and 2015 World Cups, respectively.

6. First double treble in Olympic history

The talismanic forward is also the only player in the Olympics’ history to score two hat tricks in a single campaign.

7. First Zambian female to score at the Olympics

Barbra became the first Zambian female player to score a goal at the Olympics. A goal her home country will never forget.

8. Youngest female player to score 5+ goals at the Olympics

At 21 years and 126 days old, the forward became the youngest player to score more than five goals. She beat the record of World Cup great Marta, who netted her sixth Olympic goal against Germany in 2008 at 22 years and 212 days.

9. First African Treble at the Olympics

Despite an embarrassing defeat to the Netherlands, her three-goal effort in that match was the first ever by an African woman in the Olympics.

10. Most goals scored in a lost match at the Olympics

Barbra also equaled the record for the most goals scored by a player in a lost match, which was held by Christine Sinclair against the USA in 2012.
