It was a repeat of last season’s Champions League final but this time Liverpool learned a big footballing lesson.

The Reds were presented with a chance to get their revenge on Real Madrid and they brilliantly started the game having led early with goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohammad Salah to send the home fans in ecstasy.

When Salah thought he finally got “the scorers to settle” settled, Anfied was silenced in a blink of an eye.

Flamboyant Vinicius jr put the defending Champions Madrid on level terms with a brace before the break.

Defender Éder Militão’s goal and Karim Benzema’s second-half brace were enough to sink Liverpool’s side that has struggled throughout the whole campaign.

Currently out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, Liverpool have been far from their usual best. The Champions League elimination is now staring them down in the eyes.

Jurgen Klopp’s men, however, aren’t strangers in turning things around in Europe. Their comeback victory over AC Milan earlier in the season is a reminder of what they can do.

It would also take a repeat of their heroic comeback against Barcelona in 2029 to progress over Real Madrid.

Liverpool completed one of the greatest comebacks in football history, beating Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield and 4-3 on aggregate to reach the 2019 Champions League final which they won..

Will they defy the odds by making amends in the second leg?
