Banyana Banyana robbed Turkish Women’s cup, Copper Queens finish third

Despite finishing with the most goals and points, South Africa were not crowned winners of the Turkish Women's Cup; instead, the trophy was given to Slovenia, who finished with the same points and fewer goals.

The Copper Queens of Zambia have finished third behind their regional rivals Banyana Banyana at the just-ended Turkish Women’s Cup after recording one win in two matches.

Zambia lost their first match 1-0 to Slovenia and defeated Uzbekistan 4-0 to scoop the third prize award.

South Africa, who were supposed to be the champions, were erroneously given the second prize instead.

The African Champions recorded one win and a draw to top the ranks but did not receive their deserved prize.

Banyana Banyana thrashed Uzbekistan 3-0 and drew 1-1 with Slovenia. They finished the competition with four points and four goals more than anyone else but were not crowned champions.

Meanwhile, Slovenia, who also finished with 4 points and 2 goals, were erroneously crowned winners of the competition, much to the surprise of many.

Slovenia drew 1-1 with South Africa and defeated Zambia 1-0.

Bolanews understands that the mistake has been noted and will be corrected, so South Africa will be declared Champions.

The Turkish Women’s Cup saw teams play two matches each and rank based on the points and goals scored.

It was being used as part of the preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Women’s biggest football showpiece is set to kick off on July 20th in Australia and Newzealand.
