Bullets’ losing streak continues; Pasuwa says it’s worrisome

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have a long week to recover after failing to defend the FDH Bank Cup, just a week after being eliminated in the CAF Champions League by Zambian club Red Arrows.

The Bullets lost 3-2 on penalties to Blue Eagles FC, a second-tier league team after regulation time ended goalless at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The Malawi champions won all four trophies last season, but they have fallen into the wilderness, failing to defend the cup and on the verge of losing the league to the Silver Strikers, who have opened a 20-point lead over them.

The poor performance has to concern Zimbabwean coach Kalisto Pasuwa, who had hoped to reach the CAF Champions League group stages this season after last year’s domestic performance.

Pasuwa now has two cups ahead of him: the Airtel Top8 Cup and the Castel Challenge Cup. He believes the Bullets still have a chance to win a trophy this season.

“It is worrisome that we have lost the cup; that’s football; at times when you don’t utilize your chances, you end up losing it.

“However, we will regroup and see how we will end the season; we can still win two trophies, but let’s talk after we play our next fixtures,” he said.

Pasuwa added that his team will not give up.

“We can’t give up now. We soldier on. Yes, We have lost this one, but that doesn’t mean the end of the world. We still have other competitions to play for and we will focus on the next assignments.”
