FCB Nyasa Big Bullets president Konrad Buckle has urged his players to keep pushing and challenged them to aim for a quadruple, just like they achieved in 2023 under Zimbabwean coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
Buckle expressed his delight after his team defeated Silver Strikers to win the Airtel Top 8 Cup on Sunday afternoon.
While celebrating with the players, Buckle announced a K15 million reward for the squad, with sponsors FCB Capital Bank also awarding each player K500,000.
“This is in appreciation to the coach [Peter Mponda], his backroom staff and the players for a job well done. It is not every time that a team wins a major trophy for three consecutive times and for that, the team deserves a pat on the back,” said Buckle.
Bullets have now won the cup four times since its inception in 2017, including a third consecutive triumph. They remain the most successful side in the tournament’s history, followed by Silver Strikers with two titles.
When asked about his targets for the team this season, Buckle paused briefly before replying: “A quadruple probably.”
“I am proud of the team and I hope the Airtel trophy will motivate them to achieve more,” he added.
The match, held at Bingu National Stadium, drew a capacity crowd for the first time, generating a record-breaking K216 million in gate revenue.
However, the Ministry of Youth and Sports noted the figure could have been higher with better event management.
Ministry spokesperson Macmillan Mwale said: “Network failure, porousness of the perimeter fence and strict gate management control need improvement to manage such a record turnover.”
