Mayuka appointed as strikers’ coach at Atletico

He takes up a new role as coach at Atletico Lusaka.

Former Zambian National Team striker Emmanuel Mayuka has joined Atletico Lusaka’s technical bench as a strikers’ coach.

Atletico Lusaka announced on Thursday morning that the 2012 AFCON top scorer and champion will concentrate on training strikers.

“We are happy to announce that Emmanuel Mayuka, 2012 hero, will join Atletico Lusaka technical bench with the particular focus on training the strikers,” read part of the statement.

“Emmanuel with his vast experience can help the young players to improve their skills, technique, and accuracy in scoring.”

Mayuka’s new role is to help nurture strikers at the club, whose majority are young and playing in the youth national teams.

The former Southampton FC striker last played for Napsa stars in 2021. He helped qualify the club for the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup for the first time in their history.

Mayuka has not played competitive football since Napsa’s relegation to the National Division One League in the 2020-21 season.

With his appointment as coach at Atletico, he can be said to have now retired from playing football.

Atletico Lusaka is campaigning in the National League, and they are placed second from the bottom.
