There is no doubt that the Manchester United skipper has been under a lot of scrutiny but despite all that, he was named in Gareth Southgate’s squad and has been honored with the legendary jersey 6 for the Three Lions.

Maguire has endured a difficult campaign so far with the Red Devils, his stay at the Theater of Dreams could be turning into a nightmare but there is a silver lining, he has maintained his place at the heart of England’s defense, recording 48 caps for the Three Lions so far in his career.

England manager Gareth Southgate has suggested that Maguire’s experience is one of the reasons he has been included in the Three Lions squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Many fans were quick to question Southgate’s decision considering the fact that he hasn’t played as many games for his club this season to warrant a call-up to the National team.

They wondered if he is ready to deliver top notch performances worthy of a World Cup triumph with United also reportedly willing to let him go .

According to The Guardian, United will consider offers for their skipper to help fund an overhaul of Erik Ten Hag’s squad, but may have to accept a big loss on the £80million fee they paid for Maguire in August 2019.

If his fallen down the pecking order at United, how come his continued to be considered an integral part of the Three Lions?

Perhaps many don’t know that apart from providing defensive cover, the Englishman is the highest-scoring defender in the history of the Three Lions.

Maguire has seven goals to his name ahead of John Terry and Jack Charlton who each scored 6.

However, he has recently gone from being the defensive linchpin for England and Manchester United, he now finds himself excluded from his club’s starting line-up and his place in the national team is a point of debate.

There isn’t a better time than now for him to prove his critics wrong but the bigger question is, will he make the Three Lions roar in Qatar? it remains to be seen.
