Cameroon needed a work of football magic to overturn a 3-1 scoreline in their group G second match against Serbia on Monday afternoon.

Just when all hope seemed to have been lost with elimination facing the Indomitable Lions right in their faces, club Al Nass striker Vincent Aboubakar was introduced in the game as a second-half substitute in the 55th minute and scored 8 minutes later.

He was not done yet, Aboubakar unselfishly set up Bayern Munich striker Choupo Moting who made no mistake to slot home the equalizer in the 66th minute.

With a goal and assist in one match, the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations’ top goal scorer with 8 goals, has become the first substitute to score and assist in a single World Cup match for an African country.

Earlier this year at the AFCON, he increased his overall tally in the tournament to nine goals and now ranks among the 14 highest goal scorers in the history of the competition.

At the 2022 World Cup Aboubakar is yet to start a match having started from the bench twice against Switzerland and Serbia.

Rigobert Song will now bank on the 30-year-old striker to come to the party when they play their must-win final group stage match against Brazil on Friday.

The indomitable Lions are level on one point in third and fourth place with Serbia in Group G while Brazil and Switzerland are in first and second position with 3 points each.
