South Africa Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns lost 4-3 to Borussia Dortmund in the FIFA Club World Cup, their first loss.
The Brazilians went on to take the early lead when Lucas Costa Ribeiro showed some class by taking the ball in his own half before racing clear and slotting home from close range.
Dortmund equalized on minute eleven after Ronwen Williams sent the ball to Lukas Nmecha, who needed no second invitation to shoot into an empty net, ending Sundowns’ moment of happiness.
The Bundesliga giants completed the turnaround on 34 minutes when Julian Brandt raced to the byline before picking out Serhou Guirassy, who rose well before heading into the back of the net.
Dortmund didn’t stop there, as Williams cleared Brandt’s cross, and Jobe Bellingham scored his first goal as a member of the team with a volley from barely inside the area.
Teboho Mokoena’s free kick on the edge of the box nearly gave Masandawana a second goal, but it glanced against the side netting.
Mamelodi Didn’t Give Up Easily.
Ten minutes in, Khuliso Mudau headed a first-time cross from Daniel Svensson into his own net to give the Black and Yellow a new goal.
After a free kick from Mokoena, Iqraam Rayners pounced on a stray ball off the upright and bundled in his second goal of the match, cutting Sundowns’ lead in half in the 62nd minute.
Nine minutes later, Masandawana made a triple replacement, taking out Ribeiro, Mokoena, and Matthews to bring in Jayden Adams, Thapelo Morena, and Arthur Sales.
In the final minute, substitute Lebo Mothiba side-footed in from close range to open his account for the team, giving the South African champions a third goal as they continued to fight.
