The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Ethics Committee Chairperson, Sokwani Chilembo, has announced his resignation over what he described as the alleged “undermining” of his mandate.
“I can confirm that I have had both a professional and cordial relationship with office bearers at Football House, as well as committee members that I have worked with over the years. However, it has become apparent that your office, under the leadership of the new president and council, either has no use for our committee or is undermining our mandate as a judicial body,” Chilembo wrote in a letter dated 18 March 2026.
He added: “My reason for reaching this inescapable conclusion is that we have not had any meeting, sitting, or discussion over matters that require determination by the committee since the last elective AGM in May 2025.”
However, FAZ has not confirmed receipt of the letter but stated that Chilembo had already been replaced as Chairperson, with Zevyanji Sinkala appointed on 3 December 2025.
FAZ media manager Godfrey Chikumbi also confirmed to BolaNews that Sinkala is the Ethics Committee chairperson, while the previous members were only handling pending cases before an official announcement regarding the new committee chairperson was made.
Last week, Gladys Lengwe also resigned as FAZ Referees Standing Committee chairperson, citing rampant corruption, with the association cautioning her over the allegations she raised “outside official channels.”
